One GOP Presidential candidate won all of the delegates in Colorado over the weekend, fair and square because he was prepared with the effective campaign organization in place. Ted Cruz gave a speech in Colorado, Donald Trump did not. Now Trump is whining and complaining relentlessly that the “the system is rigged”.

“As we know in the state of California, whine is something best served with cheese,”

 – Ted Cruz.

“Now they’re trying to pick off those delegates one by one. That’s not the way democracy is supposed to work,” Trump claimed Monday according to Reuters, seemingly unaware that the United States of America is a constitutional federal republic, not a democracy.

These rules have been in place since August, this wasn’t some quick switch to screw Trump over. So why wasn’t Donald Trump complaining about these rules six months ago?

As Ben Shapiro explained, “Colorado Republicans voted at precinct caucuses for delegates; those delegates voted at the Colorado convention. This process was approved back in August 2015 as a response to the 2012 Ron Paul attempt to hijack the delegates from Colorado. As Jim Geraghty at National Review reports, Colorado began holding caucuses in 2004; in 2008, they shifted to a caucus/straw poll system that sent unpledged delegates to the convention; in August, the RNC said that Colorado shouldn’t waste money on the straw poll, since the delegates were unpledged anyway.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus explained via Twitter last night that there was nothing unfair about what happened in Colorado. As much as I detest Priebus for his impotent leadership of the Republican Party, he’s absolutely right about this and I applaud him for defending the truth.

Ted Cruz also responded to Trump’s claims about the “rigged” system in Colorado. “Donald has been yelling and screaming. A lot of whining. I’m sure some cursing. And some late-night fevered tweeting,” the Texas Senator said. While at a campaign event in San Diego Cruz joked about Trump’s incessant complaints, saying, “As we know in the state of California, whine is something best served with cheese.”

Notice that it’s part of a pattern. Every time Trump wins a caucus or primary Sean Hannity, Matt Drudge, Ann Coulter, most of the writers at Breitbart, the Fox News Channel pundits and the rest of Trump’s surrogates wet their pants with excitement. They declare Trump the inevitable nominee and celebrate endlessly until the next contest. Yet every time Trump loses he goes to Twitter and rallies his cult of followers. Somehow the system is rigged. Everyone’s out to get him. “It’s Lyin’ Ted’s fault.” Then he usually threatens a frivolous lawsuit which he never files, and trashes the RNC.

As I said Monday, Trump knew about these rules and so did his campaign. He was cheated out of Colorado delegates by nothing more than his own incompetence and lack of preparation. Trump’s current whining tantrum on Twitter would be the equivalent of the Panthers saying field goals should be worth 1 point instead of 3 the day after the Super Bowl. Cruz won Colorado because he has a much more effective ground game than Trump. Imagine if Donald Trump and the “best people” he selected to help run his companies had the same high level of organizational and management skills as Ted Cruz and his campaign staff. Then maybe, just maybe four Atlantic City casinos would not have went bankrupt. Maybe Trump Air, Trump Steaks, Trump Magazine, etc. would not have been such colossal failures.
